Cargo Airship Systems

Av-Intel's cargo airships will use a 'belly racking' system where the load or containers are held externally and closely attached to a platform rack system. This method will employ physical load and ballast transfer containers, with the airships operating at all times close to neutral buoyancy.

Av-Intel fills large market niche between standard airlift & surface (Truck, Rail, Ship) haulage

* 3 to 4 times faster than surface modes; 35% to 60%
   cheaper than cargo aircraft

n10% of Global Maritime & 30% of Air Container Traffic
would switch to Cargo Airships.

* Equates to a $20 billion market in 2006

cCommercial Communications

* Large global wireless markets where satellites or
  ground systems are not economical

* One-half of global population never heard a dial tone

* Airship as ‘Tall Tower’ or ‘Low Satellite’ to provide
  affordable cellular service within a 600-mile circular
  region

Av-Intel's airship, capable of carrying 80-tons of net payload, will cost approximately $15 million in production.

Av-Intel's Cargo Airship System (CAS) is a very large heavy payload lighter-than-air (LTA) airship, similar in construction to modern blimps, but long and slender similar to the design shape of the early cigar-shaped dirigibles.

By extending the length of a modern blimp by at least two times the “middle body” increase can amount to a 400% increase in payload capability yet without increasing power required. In simple terms, the overall drag is only slightly effected by lengthening due to increased laminar drag, which in the comparison of “short to long” amounts only to a few miles per hour (mph) difference in cruise speed, but huge gains in payload capability.

The CAS is a “blimp-like” but resembles a dirigible of past history. It has the advantages of modern aerospace; structural and “blimp-like” safety characteristics. Can be built in very large sizes: 40 tons to over 500 tons payload, and since “CAS” comprises inflatable pressure envelopes is inexpensive -- as much as 5 times less expensive per unit of haulage than any other form of cargo aircraft. (ref; FEDEX – CAS cost: 11 cents per ton mile).

This prototype CAS vehicle will be
comprised of a row of modular cylindrical helium-filled pressure envelope sections whereby all aerodynamic, structural and gust loads and stresses are absorbed at the intersections of these cylindrical sections.  As such, the entire vehicle acts as a multiple shock absorber that accommodates compression, tension, and torsion moments and satisfies modern requirements for safety. This resolves the major inherent design failure of all past rigid dirigibles.

 Av-Intel already has a validated design and is prepared to complete the critical design leading to the development, build, and flight test of the 80-ton payload demonstration vehicle.  The program involves four phases:

* Development of the objective air vehicle critical design based on system /  operational  requirements and the concept of operations.

* Simulations, design tradeoffs, and risk reduction.

* Manufacture and systems integration of the demonstration vehicle.

* Flight test, FAA certification, and operational testing and  evaluation.
